Violence can affect any woman - in her own home, in public places, at work, in education, or in the world of digital media. In general, every person residing in Germany has the right to protection from violence! It doesn’t matter how long you have been staying or living in Germany for. Women will not lose their right of residence if they seek help.
Nobody is allowed to intentionally physically or emotionally harm a woman, force her into having sex, harass, insult, threaten, humiliate, torture, rape, or hit her. Every woman has the right to decide for herself where she wants to go, who she wants to meet, and who she speaks to. This also applies within a marriage, partnership, or family.
In Bremen and Bremerhaven, there are advice centres and support services available for women affected by violence. Advice and support is free of charge and confidential. In our leaflets, you can find more information, as well as contact addresses and phone numbers:
